PRIVACY POLICY

I operate as a sole trader, trading under the name of Check Matt Editorial. This privacy policy is a statement of how I collect, store, and process your data. It covers all possible instances where I might request or use your data.

Why I collect your data:

Should you decide to work with me, I will need to collect certain basic pieces of information about you in order to operate as a business. The information that I will need to collect from you will be:

  • your name or the name of your business
  • your email address
  • your postal address
  • specific information about your project

This is the minimum amount of information that I need to fulfil my requirements as a business.

How I use your data:

I use any data that I collect to:

  • comply with HMRC’s tax guidelines and help me with my business’s accounting
  • contact you, should we need to communicate about an issue with your project
  • assess how my website is used by visitors
  • send you invoices and hard or electronic copies of your project
  • acknowledge your acceptance of my terms and conditions, should you choose to use my services

This data will be used by me for only these purposes and will not be given to any third parties without your prior consent, or unless I am required to share this information by law.

How I use cookies on my website:

I use cookies to keep track of visitors to my website, and I access this information as admin of my WordPress website. Cookies are not a form of malware, and do not provide me with any more information than what you have already consented to share with me. At any time, you can choose not to allow my website to store cookies on your computer or device. You can read Automattic’s cookie policy for more information.

Any data collected by my website is controlled and processed by WordPress.com and Automattic. You can read Automattic’s privacy policy for more information.

How I store your data:

My Gmail account stores your contact email address and any conversations that we have. These details are not stored anywhere else.

Your name and postal address will be stored in a McAfee vault, a password-protected electronic folder secured by McAfee electronic security software. This will in turn be stored in a password-protected computer behind a firewall. Invoices will also be stored in this vault.

Some customers may decide to pay via PayPal rather than by bank transfer. PayPal is a password-protected online payment system. You can read PayPal’s privacy policy for more information about how it stores and uses your details.

I will store your data for at least 6 years in accordance with HMRC’s record-keeping guidelines for businesses. If you want me to delete or change your personal records, then let me know and I will immediately remove or change your personal information, as long as this request does not conflict with my legal obligations to HMRC.
