‘Matt Robertson is an integral part of the success of our writers’ group’s Exhibition of work at the Rhodes Arts Centre, Bishop’s Stortford.
The Stortford Scribblers writers’ group was first given the opportunity to showcase their writing at the Arts Centre in 2018. Matt was the proofreader and copy-editor for the project. It was important that our work was professional, and our grammar and punctuation was correct because it was on display to the public for a month.
Matt worked to an extremely high standard during the project. Preparation was complicated, involving twelve pieces of writing, from genres as diverse as crime, supernatural, science-fiction, literary short stories, poetry and memoir. Matt is highly skilful with grammar and punctuation, with polishing prose and suggesting ways to make narrative run effortlessly.
Because there were twelve pieces, by twelve different writers, it was imperative to work with them to improve their pieces. Matt was diplomatic and tactful, and we got the best piece of writing from each person because of his diligence and humour.
Matt was conscientious and met every deadline promptly; he used uncomplicated methods of tracking changes and giving suggestions to writers which helped them to meet deadlines too. We were able to pull all the pieces together into a House Style that looked smart, and also easy-on-the-eye for public viewing.
This year (2019) we were invited to repeat our Exhibition at the Arts Centre. This was wonderful, and our success was due in no small part to the work Matt put in last year. Matt repeated his excellent editing and proofreading role with new pieces of our writing and the Exhibition was at the Centre for the month of October. Matt’s work for the projects has helped us enormously, and the Stortford Scribblers have already been asked to exhibit our writing again next year (2020).
I would have no hesitation in recommending Matt, whether for a project involving many pieces written by many people, or for the proofreading and copy-editing of a story, memoir, or novel for publication by one writer.’
